S.K.I Report – Canada in style

Once you have made that first step to spend all your hard earned savings on a holiday, the next step is to decide where to go.  We went big. We thought it could be the only overseas holiday we would have, so lets’ do it right.

The Scenic Tour ads are everywhere, five-star luxury holidays, staying in the best hotels and travelling in total comfort. That’s what we went for. So very glad we did.  We took 18 months to plan the trip so by the time it came around it was all paid for. With the 28-day tour of Canada and Alaska we only had to put our hands in our pockets for presents and about 5 meals. All other expenses were taken care of including tips. Our Scenic Tour Guide took care of check in at every hotel and our bags were always waiting for us in our rooms at the end of each day.

When you compare the cost to other tours, they may start out cheaper, but by the time you pay for all your meals and excursions, the costs mount up very quickly. I can honestly say with the inclusions and service it was definitely value for money.

We started by attending an information evening in our local area. At the presentation we were put in contact with a travel agent. The process from there was smooth sailing, literally. Hello World (previously Harvey World Travel) were true professionals.  We were very nervous handing over that first deposit, but once it was done the excitement began to build. Our travel agent took care of every detail. All we had to do was pack our bags. Even getting to the airport was taken care of.

The trip itself was just incredible. We arrived in Vancouver on a sunny Autumn day. We were met at the airport by a Scenic Tour representative and taken to The Fairmont Hotel, known as “the Castle in the City”. The Fairmont Hotels are beyond words. I was born to live in such luxury and style.

Our bags were taken to our room and a courtesy wake-up call was arranged for 6pm, this gave us time to rest before meeting our tour group at dinner. We dined in the gorgeous Atrium dining room at the top of the hotel and that dinner really set the tone for the rest of the trip. The gourmet selection of food was a gastronomic delight. Every meal provided was of the highest quality with a large selection to suit every taste and dietary requirement.

The next day was a relaxing tour of Vancouver with lots of time to wander and do our own thing. A goodnights sleep and we were off on the real adventure, The Rocky Mountaineer. Gold leaf, no less.

If you’re contemplating this trip make sure you take the train up the Rockies to Banff and the coach back down. The glass roof train winds its way along the river and climbs slowly up the great mountain range. The views are breathtaking.

After two-days on the train, we changed our mode of transport to coach driven by a very courteous man who was a great one for jokes (not always good ones).

Each day produced a new delight. Lakes, rivers, mountains, gardens, and they all took our breath away. We were educated by a visit to a First Nation Village and a Royal Canadian Mountie shared tales of his adventures.

Beauty at every turn
If you only have one adventure in you, this is the one. The Canadian people are friendly and welcoming. Everyone on the tour is treated with great importance and you have lots of free time to do things outside the group. Best of all, you will make new friends, after all you have lots in common with everyone. You are all out for a memorable experience.

However, there is one down fall. After this trip we were hooked. Travel is what we work for. Not all our trips are this expensive and luxurious, but they are all new adventures.
